Mike Maignan has effectively ended speculation linking him with a move to Juventus after committing his long-term future to AC Milan.
Following months of uncertainty over his contract situation, the French goalkeeper signed a new deal that keeps him at Milan until 2031, bringing an end to doubts about a potential departure when his previous agreement, due to expire in 2026, entered a delicate phase.
Last summer, Maignan’s future appeared far from secure. Interest from abroad, particularly from Chelsea, raised the possibility of an exit before the Club World Cup, and negotiations over an extension initially progressed slowly.
However, behind-the-scenes work from Milan’s hierarchy, including figures such as Massimiliano Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare, helped shift the situation.
Reports suggested Maignan grew increasingly open to staying, culminating in what many within the club described as one of their most important renewals.
Amid that uncertainty, Juventus quietly explored the possibility of signing the goalkeeper. According to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, the Turin side contacted Maignan’s representatives between November and December to gauge his availability.
Juventus were reportedly willing to offer a salary slightly higher than his Milan earnings and sought talks about a potential future move, particularly as questions emerged over their goalkeeping situation.
Maignan, however, did not entertain the approach. Instead, he made it clear that Milan remained his priority, effectively stalling discussions and signalling that a switch to a direct rival was not part of his plans.
Interest in the France international extended beyond Italy. Bayern Munich also monitored his situation earlier in the season, though their interest never developed into concrete negotiations.
Ultimately, Milan’s persistence paid off. The renewal, structured as a deal until 2030 with an option for an additional year, secured the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and reinforced their long-term project.
By choosing continuity over a high-profile transfer, Maignan has positioned himself as a central figure in Milan’s future.
His decision not only shuts down Juventus speculation but also sends a clear message about his commitment to the Rossoneri as they aim to rebuild and compete at the highest level.
