Inter Milan plot surprise move for Franck Kessie

Italian giants Inter Milan are considering making a shock move to sign Franck Kessie from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, with the midfielder eyeing a return to Europe once his contract expires this summer.

The 29-year-old midfielder has spent the last three seasons in Saudi Arabia after leaving Barcelona in 2022, enjoying a successful spell that has seen him lift the AFC Champions League and Saudi Super Cup.

The Ivory Coast midfielder has made 33 appearances for the club this season as his influence continues to grow, although he could be ready for a European comeback when his contract runs up at the end of the campaign.

Reports have now emerged linking Inter Milan with a move to sign Kessie this summer, with the Nerazzurri looking to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season, both to cover for potential departures and also to mount a serious challenge in Europe next season.

Kessie brings plenty of experience, having spent seven years in Italy earlier in his career, with stints at Atalanta, Cesena and AC Milan, where he captained the Rossoneri to the Serie A title in the 2021-22 season.

However, Inter Milan will not have an easy path to signing him, with interest from their league rivals. Juventus are weighing up a possible move for the midfielder, while AC Milan are also considering bringing him back as well.

At the same time, the Nerazzurri are keeping their options open in the transfer market and are also monitoring Chelsea’s Andrey Santos as a possible target, as we reported earlier.

Kessie is keen on a return to Italy, but a move would likely require him to accept a significant pay cut. Should that happen, he would be assured of regular playing time at a top level, while adding plenty of experience and quality to the squad.
