Inter Milan are planning to extend Cristian Chivu’s tenure as manager at the San Siro despite the Nerazzurri’s recent shocking UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Bodo Glimt.
Many considered Inter Milan the clear favourites to progress into the Round of 16 when UEFA’s draw confirmed that their Champions League play-off tie would be against the Norwegian outfit.
Even after getting stunned in the first leg of the encounter, where Sondre Brunstad Fet, Jens Petter Hauge and Kasper Waarts Høgh all scored a goal each to secure a 3-1 win at the Aspmyra Stadion in Norway, the Italians were still backed to orchestrate a comeback in the return leg.
However, things didn’t go to plan for Chivu and his men in the second leg as goals from Hauge and Hakon Evjen rendered Alessandro Bastoni’s consolation strike irrelevant to seal a 5-2 aggregate win for Bodo Glimt and end Inter’s participation in Europe.
Despite the disappointing turn of events, reports from FC Inter 1908 indicate that Inter Milan are ready to tie the Romanian tactician to a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029.
Chivu’s side are currently flying in Serie A, with ten points separating them from the chasing pack after 26 rounds of matches and the club’s hierarchy are reportedly unfazed by their disappointing exit from the Champions League.
With the 45-year-old on course to deliver Scudetto glory for Inter in his first season in charge, the club’s hierarchy retain complete confidence in his leadership and are willing to place their long-term future in his hands.
