English Premier League club Bournemouth are determined to keep Marcos Senesi this winter, despite interest from clubs like Barcelona, Chelsea, and Juventus.
Senesi has been a key player for Bournemouth over the last three seasons. Coming into this season, Bournemouth were expected to struggle after losing first-team defenders Ilya Zabarnyi, Milos Kerkez, and Dean Huijsen.
However, despite losing them, Senesi has stepped up to become a calming presence at the back. Although the Cherries have shipped 41 goals in the Premier League this season, it would have been worse without the Argentine.
The Argentine center-back is an astute marker and tackler. He also loves to chip in with one or two odd goals. And of course, he is a brilliant ball player, which has made him a pivotal part of coach Andoni Iraola’s setup.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, as several clubs have shown interest in acquiring his services this month. Sides like Chelsea, Barcelona, and Juventus see him as a good addition to their backline. Chelsea who has also recently been linked with the signing of French league un star Jeremy Jacquet appear to be very keen on Senesi.
However, according to TalkSport, Bournemouth have decided against selling Senesi this month. The Argentine defender joined Bournemouth for €15 million four years ago, but they are willing to cut their losses and keep him until the end of the campaign.
Bournemouth’s approach is quite surprising, as they are a selling club, and they will definitely lose him for free because he has refused to extend his contract which will expire at the end of the season.
As things stand, the 28-year-old defender can sign a pre-contract with another club since he has only six months left on his contract. His next destination is pretty much unknown. But since he is Argentine, he might favour a move to the Laliga, where Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are interested.
