West Ham weighing up £17.5m move for Juventus defender Gatti

Juventus Federico Gatti

West Ham United are reportedly considering a summer move for Federico Gatti, with Italian outlet Tuttosport claiming the defender could be available for around £17.5 million.

Interest in the Juventus centre-back is also said to be coming from Nottingham Forest and Olympique Lyonnais.

The Hammers are currently battling to avoid relegation in the Premier League, sitting inside the bottom three alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley. With 12 matches remaining, the London side remain just three points away from safety.

Recruitment plans remain uncertain due to their league status, but Gatti is viewed as a potential option to strengthen defensive depth. Should a deal materialise, the Italian could add competition and physical presence at the back.

The 27-year-old is contracted with Juventus until June 2030 and has featured 18 times across all competitions this season, including 12 league appearances, while contributing two goals from defence.

Despite his long-term deal, his future in Turin is being closely watched amid growing transfer interest.

Since joining Juventus in 2022, Gatti has accumulated 127 appearances and scored nine goals. Before his move to the Serie A giants, he played for clubs such as Frosinone, as well as lower-league sides including Pro Patria and Verbania. At the international level, he has earned six caps with the Italy national team.

West Ham return to action this weekend with a home fixture against AFC Bournemouth at the London Stadium.

The Hammers head into the match following a 1-0 victory over Burton Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Speaking after that win, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo highlighted the team’s discipline against set-pieces and praised their second-half response, noting the growing impact of Crysencio Summerville as the squad continues to push for positive results.
