West Ham United have announced the arrival of Paco Jémez as a new Men’s First Team Coach, with the experienced Spaniard joining Nuno Espírito Santo’s staff ahead of a demanding run of fixtures in the Premier League.
In a statement released on the club’s official website, West Ham said the former Spain international will “add experience and knowledge” to the coaching team, bringing nearly 20 years on the touchline and over 500 matches across Spain, Mexico, and Iran.
The club described Jémez as “a Spain international centre-back capped 21 times by La Roja,” noting a La Liga career that saw him make more than 250 top-flight appearances for Rayo Vallecano, Deportivo La Coruña, and Zaragoza, where he lifted the Copa del Rey in 2001.
The 54-year-old began his coaching career in 2007, taking charge of clubs in Spain, Mexico, and Iran. His standout spell came at Rayo Vallecano, where he spent five years and led the Madrid-based side to a record La Liga finish of eighth in the 2012–13 season.
West Ham confirmed that, once his work permit is approved, Jémez will join a backroom team that includes First Team Coaches Mark Robson, Steve Potts, and Gerard Prenderville, alongside Goalkeeper Coaches Rui Barbosa and Billy Lepine.
“Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Paco to East London and wish him every success for his career in Claret and Blue,” the club said.
The appointment comes as West Ham struggle for consistency in the Premier League. Defensive lapses and a lack of goals have left the team under pressure, with the next set of fixtures set to decide their push up the table.
