Upamecano decides Bayern Munich future amid Liverpool, Real Madrid links

Dayot Upamecano has put speculation about a potential summer move to either Real Madrid or Liverpool to bed by committing his future to current employers Bayern Munich.

Upamecano and Bayern had been embroiled in a lengthy negotiation stand-off, with the France international taking several months to reach a decision after the Bundesliga champions tabled a comprehensive extension offer.

The situation had even begun to generate a lot of noise with some reports claiming that Bayern issued a deadline for Upamecano to respond and even threatened to take their offer off the table amid growing internal pressure.

However, all of that noise has now quieted down following a report from reliable football insider Fabrizio Romano, revealing that the 27-year-old defender has now come to terms with Bayern Munich over the extension of his contract.

According to the Italian journalist, Upamecano is on the verge of committing to a new four-year deal at the Allianz Arena. The new deal will see him pocket around 20 million euros in annual earnings.

This impressive package, which will also make Upamecano one of the top earners at Bayern Munich, is believed to have a contractually anchored exit clause as part of the agreement.

Upamecano has been a steady feature at the heart of Bayern’s defence alongside Jonathan Tah, and the Bavarians can now rest easy after securing the future of one of their most important players under Vincent Kompany.

Both club and player can now focus their full attention on the sporting objectives of this season. With Bayern on course to retain their Bundesliga crown, winning this year’s UEFA Champions League will also be of top priority.
