English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is considering exiting Real Madrid in this January transfer window. Alexander-Arnold joined Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer after over 11 years at Liverpool.
During his time in England, he established himself as one of the top right-backs in the world, helping the Merseyside giants to the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles. Due to his brilliance, Liverpool tried to convince him to stay, but he ultimately decided to leave for Los Blancos in a deal worth €10 million.
Upon his move, it was expected that Alexander-Arnold would immediately make the right-back position his own, as his major competition would be Dani Carvajal, who is edging closer to the twilight of his career.
However, things have not panned out that way. The 27-year-old defender has in fact been a peripheral figure at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. He has managed just 11 appearances in total for the club.
This is due to recurring injury problems and tactical decisions by the manager. And now, beIN Sports reports that he is thinking about leaving Real Madrid.
The Englishman is currently injured, but he is desperate to get a lot of minutes when he recovers so he will be considered for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Alexander-Arnold is not short of suitors though, as clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Manchester, and his old club Liverpool are said to be interested in acquiring his services.
However, an outright purchase seems unlikely at the moment because of his price. Also, even though Alvaro Arbeloa is coach at Real Madrid, he could later leave, and a new manager might fancy having Alexander-Arnold. As such, a loan deal might just suffice for now.
But any club that wants his service will have to move quickly because the transfer window closes in ten days.
