Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal to sign Andy Robertson from Liverpool, with the north London club accelerating a move that was originally planned for the summer, according to The Athletic.
Spurs had identified the Scotland international as a free-agent target ahead of the 2026-27 season, but have moved to bring negotiations forward in a bid to strengthen Thomas Frank’s squad immediately.
Talks between both clubs and the player are described as amicable, with Tottenham pushing to add experience, leadership, and more depth during a demanding second half of the season, in the face of ongoing injury problems.
For Spurs, the move addresses a clear need to bolster a squad plagued by injuries, with left-back options Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies sidelined.
Robertson, 31, has seen his role reduced at Liverpool, following the arrival of Milos Kerkez, starting just four Premier League matches this season. The Scotland international was a central figure in one of the most successful eras in Liverpool’s history, winning every major club trophy available to him, including the Premier League and the Champions League, while becoming the competition’s most prolific assisting defender, registering over 54 Premier League assists.
With his contract set to expire in June and the World Cup on the horizon, regular playing time has become increasingly important for the 31-year-old.
Liverpool are open to round discussions, aware of their long-standing relationship with the player, and keen to avoid any exit that would leave either side at a disadvantage. While Robertson’s departure would thin their natural left-back options, the club can afford to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma if the need arises.
Negotiations are ongoing, with all Spurs hopeful of making progress in the coming days as they look to reinforce ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
