President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye has rewarded the Senegal national team squad with major financial bonuses and coastal land plots after their victory at the 2025 African Cup of Nations, in celebration of their 1-0 final victory over hosts Morocco.
Speaking to thousands of supporters at a ceremony in Dakar on Tuesday, The President announced that each player in the squad will receive 75 million CFA francs (approximately €115,000) and a 1,500 square-meter plot of coastal land in the Petite-Côte. This reward package, totalling over $3.7 million, and it’s significantly more than the bonuses awarded after Senegal’s first AFCON win in 2021.
He said, “Dear Lions, you have honoured the flag entrusted to you. You have honoured Senegal.
“You have shown by example that when Senegalese people move forward together with discipline and confidence, no challenge is beyond their reach.”
The team, led by captain Sadio Mane and head coach Pape Thiaw, paraded through the capital atop an open bus earlier in the day, greeted by massive crowds celebrating the nation’s second continental title.
In a formal ceremony later on at the Presidential Palace, head coach Pape Thiaw and the entire squad were also awarded the rank of Commanders of the National Order of the Lion, the country’s highest national honour.
The final was contentious, featuring a temporary walk-off by the Senegalese team after the hosts were given a late penalty. After returning to the pitch, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy saved the spot-kick after a poor attempt by Brahim Diaz, Pape Gueye went on to score the winning goal in extra time.
The President is also rewarding members of Senegal’s football federation and they will receive 50 million CFA francs and 1,000 square-meter plots, while delegation members in Morocco will get 20 million francs and 500 square-meter plots. Sports ministry staff will also share a 305 million franc bonus.
