Saka commits future to Arsenal with record-breaking new deal

Bukayo Saka Arsenal

Bukayo Saka has put an end to months of speculation by signing a new long-term contract with Arsenal, tying himself to the club until 2031 and becoming the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

According to a report from BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel, the new contract runs until 2031 and makes Saka the highest-paid player in Arsenal’s history.

Sources have confirmed the England winger has agreed a new five-year deal worth more than £300,000 a week, eclipsing every current earner at the Emirates.

The agreement followed almost a year of negotiations with Saka, first giving the verbal commitment back in January.

His previous contract, signed in 2023, was due to run until 2027, but this extension secures the 24-year-old’s prime years in North London.

Saka’s renewal comes at an extremely important point in the season, with Arsenal chasing silverware on multiple fronts.

Mikel Arteta’s side are four points clear at the top of the league, through to the Champions League knockout stages, into the fifth round of the FA Cup, and preparing for an EFL Cup final against Manchester City next month.

The winger has already played a key role this season,  scoring seven goals and providing six assists across 33 appearances in all competitions.

A product of Arsenal’s academy, Saka made his senior debut in 2018 at just 17. Since then, he has gone on to rack up 217 Premier League appearances,  scoring 57 times for the Gunners.

He has also cemented his place in the national team, netting 14 goals in 48 games for England and is expected to be part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.

With William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly all recently tied down to new contracts,  Arsenal’s decision to secure Saka’s long-term stay at the Emirates goes to show their commitment to keeping the core of their title-challenging team.
