Real Madrid Targeting Jose Mourinho as Permanent Manager

Jose mourinho back to real madrid

Spanish Laliga giants are eyeing Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho as a permanent coach, following the sacking of Xabi Alonso.

On Monday, Real Madrid announced that they had parted ways with Xabi Alonso, just eight months after he was appointed. That decision came immediately after their loss to Barcelona in the Supercopa.

Then, barely an hour later, they confirmed the appointment of Alvaro Arbeloa as coach. Before his appointment, the Spaniard had never handled a senior team. In fact, his only job had been with Real Madrid’s junior team.

The former Spanish international did not fare well in his first game in charge, as Los Blancos lost to second-tier Albacete in the Copa Del Rey.

At the time of Arbeloa’s appointment, the club did not exactly state the duration of his deal, but it was believed that his stay would be dependent on the results.

But unfortunately for him, his first game was disappointing, and Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, who is known to be ruthless, is already searching for a replacement.

According to Transfer News Live, Perez has identified Mourinho as a potential option. Recall that the Portuguese tactician had a three-year stint at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013 and he did quite well there, winning the Spanish Cup, Supercopa, and Laliga. However, he was ultimately fired for failing to win the Champions League.

In this decade, Mourinho has struggled at all the clubs he has worked at. He was fired at Tottenham, Fenerbahce, and Roma. And now at Benfica, it seems he will eventually lose his job.

But it doesn’t take away the fact that Mourinho is known as a winner in Europe. Recall that he won the UEFA Champions League at Porto and Inter Milan. As such, there is still the belief that he can deliver at the top level.

Moreover, most analysts believe that only a veteran coach would do well at Real Madrid due to the peculiar surroundings at the club.

Jurgen Klopp has also been mentioned as a potential option for Los Blancos, but nothing is confirmed yet. But in the coming weeks, the Spanish giants will definitely make a decision.
