Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali as they continue to ponder potential midfield reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Spanish giants are preparing for a busy summer that could see a new manager take the helm at the Santiago Bernabeu while they also go all out to reinforce key areas of their squad ahead of the 2026/2027 season.
One of such areas is in the middle of the park, where Los Blancos have lost the irreplaceable qualities of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the last two seasons.
Despite losing the mercurial duo, Madrid have surprisingly failed to make a single midfield signing over four transfer windows.
Heading into the summer, it appears the 36-time La Liga winners are finally ready to address their midfield problems with Tonali emerging as a player of interest, according to a recent report from talkSPORT.
Tonali has two years left on his current contract at Newcastle United, but his future with the Magpies has constantly been subject to speculation since last summer, when Arsenal and Liverpool were said to be interested in acquiring his services.
Any potential move for the Italy international will not come cheap as Newcastle value their star midfielder at about £80 million to £100 million, a quotation that could complicate negotiations as it currently remains unclear whether Real Madrid will be willing to part ways with such an amount to push a deal through.
Tonali’s desires will also be an important factor to consider. Prior reports have suggested that the midfielder will welcome a potential return to Italy, where he used to turn out for AC Milan.
However, it’s difficult to see him rejecting Real Madrid if the Spanish giants decide to make a formal approach in the summer.
