Pedro Porro insists Tottenham Hotspur are taking positives from their midweek performance despite crashing out of the UEFA Champions League, as attention shifts to a crucial Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
Spurs produced a spirited display to defeat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie, although the result was not enough to overturn a heavy first-leg deficit, with the Spanish side progressing 7-5 on aggregate.
It marked a first win for new manager Igor Tudor, easing pressure after a difficult start that included a 5-2 defeat in Madrid.
Combined with a hard-fought draw against Liverpool at Anfield, the performance has injected renewed belief into the squad.
Porro admitted the result was bittersweet but believes it could serve as a turning point.
“It’s something bittersweet, but it gives you confidence for what’s going to be like a final on Sunday,” he said in quotes revealed by Standard UK.
With Spurs now out of all cup competitions, their focus is fully on the Premier League, where results have been underwhelming.
They currently sit just above Nottingham Forest, with only one point separating both sides, turning Sunday’s clash into a high-stakes relegation battle.
Porro revealed the dressing room is fully aware of the importance of the fixture.
“The most important thing is the team is fighting… we’re picking up some good feelings again,” the Spaniard added.
Tottenham are still without a Premier League win in 2026 and have not picked up three points since their victory over Crystal Palace in December.
Their opponents, however, come into the game with confidence, having secured a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture and recently held Manchester City to a draw.
For Tudor’s side, Sunday presents a perfect opportunity to build momentum and create breathing space in the standings.
A win could prove decisive, not just for their survival hopes, but also in restoring belief heading into the final stretch of the campaign.
