Major League Soccer outfit Orlando City have reached an agreement to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano.
The 35-year-old had long been expected to leave the Spanish side at the end of the season and was previously close to an exit earlier in the year.
However, he chose to stay in Spain and complete the campaign before making the switch.
The move is now back on track with Griezmann already given the green light by Atletico Madrid to travel after their 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in Sunday’s Madrid derby, where he featured for just 57 minutes.
He is expected to sign a two-year contract with the option of an additional year and will wear the number seven shirt, officially linking up with his Orlando City teammates when the MLS summer transfer window opens in July.
The transfer will bring an end to his second spell at Atletico Madrid. After initially leaving for Barcelona in 2019, he returned to the Spanish capital on loan in 2021 before making the move permanent a year later.
Griezmann cemented his legacy as a club legend, holding the record for the most goals in the club’s history with 210 goals and earning multiple inclusions in the La Liga Team of the Season.
On the international stage, he was also a key figure as France won the FIFA World Cup in 2018.
With his future now settled, Griezmann will look to end the season on a high, as Atletico Madrid push for silverware in both the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League, where they will face Barcelona in the last eight next month.
A move to MLS offers a fresh challenge and could possibly mark the final chapter of a remarkable career.
