Newcastle United injury news – Updates on Gordon, Miley and Joelinton ahead of Spurs clash

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has confirmed that versatile midfielder Joelinton will miss Tuesday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur, while Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley remain injury doubts.

The Magpies travel to North London on the back of a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Brentford last weekend, and are hoping for a turnaround after a poor run of form which has seen them record just a single win in their last eight matches across all competitions.

All three players were absent from that loss, and Howe has now confirmed that Joelinton will not play any part in Tuesday’s clash against Spurs. The Brazilian midfielder has made 19 appearances in the Premier League this season, but has missed the last two with a lingering groin problem.

“Joelinton won’t make this game”, the Englishman confirmed in quotes revealed by the official Newcastle United website.

Meanwhile, Newcastle could be boosted by the return of England duo Gordon and Miley, which would be a significant lift as they push for a much-needed win.

Gordon sat out the weekend’s defeat to Brentford after picking up a hamstring injury during the first half of the 3-1 loss to Manchester City in the second leg of their EFL Cup semifinal clash last week. Miley, on the other hand, is also in contention to return to action after missing a couple of games with a knee injury.

“Gordon, we’ll make a check on today and see how he’s progressing. Hopefully, a big improvement in him”, Howe added.

“Miley, I need to see today – we’ll get another update on his progress. He got a nasty bang to his leg, so it’s like a sort of dead leg that’s dragged on a little bit longer than we thought, so we’ll see how he is.”

Newcastle head into the clash against Tottenham seeking their first league win in five outings. However, they have won four of their last five meetings with Spurs and another victory on Tuesday night would provide a huge confidence boost and ease the growing pressure on Howe.
