Manchester United have emerged as the latest club to show interest in signing Southampton midfielder Shea Charles ahead of the summer transfer window.
Charles grabbed headlines over the weekend after scoring the decisive goal in Southampton’s stunning 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-final, which booked their spot in the semi-finals for the first time since the 2020–21 season.
The Manchester City academy product moved to the Saints in 2023, but struggled for regular game time in his first season at the club.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, where he impressed and was named the club’s Player of the Year.
Since returning to Southampton, he has become a key figure in the club’s push for promotion to the Premier League, making 24 appearances so far in the EFL Championship this season.
His recent heroics have attracted attention from several Premier League sides, with Manchester United now exploring the possibility of a move, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The three-time European champions are expected to strengthen their squad this summer as they aim to return to competing for major honours after a difficult period.
The midfield is one area of focus, especially with Casemiro set to depart at the end of the season, while Manuel Ugarte also faces an uncertain future at the club.
Although the Red Devils have other targets in mind, Charles represents a more affordable option, with Southampton valuing him at around £20 million, which could prove to be a bargain.
However, Manchester United will face competition from league rivals Everton, who are also keen on securing his signature, while Scottish club Rangers have shown interest, although they may struggle to match the financial power of Premier League clubs.
If Manchester United miss out on their primary midfield targets, a move for Charles would be seen as a smart alternative to add more depth to the squad ahead of next season.
