Manchester United are weighing up a move for highly-rated Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo, once the summer training window opens.
The Brazilian defender moved to England in 2023 and has quickly become a key figure for the club, winning their player of the season award in his first year at the club.
The 23-year-old was also a defensive standout performer in the Premier League last season, finishing with the highest number of clearances (274) and has caught the attention of some of the league’s biggest clubs with his standout performances.
Reports now suggest that Manchester United have entered the race to sign Murillo, as the club prepares for a major squad rebuild.
While the Red Devils are expected to prioritise reinforcements in the midfield and also on the left wing, strengthening the defence is also part of their plans.
The future of Harry Maguire at the club remains uncertain, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and no extension agreed yet.
Meanwhile, recurring injury problems to Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt have also left the club short of options at the back.
Martinez has struggled with fitness issues since arriving at Old Trafford in 2022 and is currently out with another injury problem, while De Ligt has been sidelined since November 2025, and there is still no confirmed timeline for his return.
However, signing Murillo could prove difficult, given the competition they are expected to face from rivals Liverpool and Chelsea, who are also monitoring the Brazilian’s situation.
While the 23-year-old is not pushing for an exit away from Nottingham Forest, things could change if the club suffer relegation from the Premier League.
If that happens, a move to Manchester United could become very appealing, especially if they secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
