Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Lewis Hall as a potential long-term replacement for injury-prone left-back Luke Shaw.
Hall has blossomed into one of the Premier League’s standout young defenders since joining Newcastle United in 2023 after limited opportunities at Chelsea.
Following a gradual adaptation period, the 21-year-old has emerged as arguably Newcastle’s most consistent performer this season.
According to Shield Gazzette, Manchester United have been impressed by Hall’s development on Tyneside. The England international has combined defensive discipline with attacking intent, showcasing maturity beyond his years.
He notably underlined his defensive quality by keeping teenage sensation Lamine Yamal quiet in a recent high-profile encounter, a performance that further enhanced his growing reputation.
With Shaw struggling for sustained fitness in recent campaigns, United are believed to be planning, and Hall fits the profile of a modern full-back capable of anchoring the position for years to come.
Despite the speculation, Newcastle have no intention of parting ways with the defender, who remains under contract until 2028.
The Magpies are even understood to be open to improving his current terms to reflect his rising importance within the squad.
United’s reported interest also follows links to other Newcastle stars, including Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, rumours that are unlikely to sit comfortably with supporters at St James’ Park.
Currently on international duty with the England national football team, Hall recently admitted the pressure that comes with trying to cement his place ahead of a major tournament.
“There are two ways you can look at it,” he said. “It can be quite nerve-racking knowing that this is the last opportunity to maybe impress.
“But at the same time, you play so many games in the season… I’m just looking to be as happy as possible and enjoy my football here.”
For now, Newcastle remain in control of the situation. But if Hall’s upward trajectory continues, Manchester United’s interest may only intensify in the months ahead.
