Manchester United have entered the race to sign Nigerian-eligible defender Michael Kayode from Brentford this summer, according to TeamTalk.
The Italy U-21 international joined the Bees from Fiorentina on an initial loan deal in January 2025, before the move was made permanent in the summer for around £15 million. Since then, Kayode has enjoyed an impressive start to life in the Premier League, establishing himself as one of the most promising young defenders in the league.
The 21-year-old has featured in all of Brentford’s 25 league matches this season, underlining his importance to the club’s setup under Keith Andrews, especially with his excellent crossing ability and dangerous long throw-ins.
Manchester United are planning for a major squad overhaul next season and have identified Kayode as a potential reinforcement at right-back, with Diogo Dalot’s future at the club uncertain amid interest from Real Madrid.
The Red Devils are also in the market for reinforcements in their midfield and have been heavily linked with Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliott Anderson.
However, the Red Devils will not have a clear run at the Italian. Manchester City and Newcastle United are also believed to be monitoring his situation and could provide serious competition for his signature.
Brentford are said to value the defender at over £50 million and face a tough battle to keep hold of one of their most prized assets at the end of the season. A move to Old Trafford could prove tempting for Kayode, although it is likely to come at a high cost.
