Manchester United have set their sights on a potential swoop for Italy and Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni as they make plans for defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window.
Bastoni is currently turning heads all over Europe after establishing himself as one of the best central defenders in the game since joining Inter Milan from Serie A rivals Atalanta back in 2017.
After initially spending his first couple of years as an Inter Milan player gathering experience through loan spells, the Italy international is now one of the Nerazzurri’s most important players.
During these last seven years donning the blue and black stripes at San Siro, Bastoni has contributed significantly to two Serie A triumphs, three Italian Super Cups and two Coppa Italia titles.
These achievements, as well as his impressive ability on the ball, have made the 26-year-old Italian one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe, with a host of top clubs credited with interest in acquiring his services.
According to the latest reports, 20-time Premier League champions Manchester United have joined this long line of suitors after identifying Bastoni as the ideal candidate to build their defence around.
Fichajes claims that the Red Devils appear to have overtaken rivals Barcelona in the race for the Italian’s center-back with the Blaugrana simply lacking the needed financial muscle to back their long-standing interest in the defender.
With the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid also harbouring serious interest in signing Bastoni from Inter, the Italian’s next destination is set to be one of the hottest topics of the coming summer transfer window.
