Former English Premier League champions Manchester United are eyeing Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu. The Red Devils are looking to add some quality players to their squad in the coming months to boost their ability to compete in the Premier League, and potentially in Europe.
But this January transfer window, it is unlikely that Manchester United will sign any players, unless one or two key players suffer injuries.
They recently appointed Michael Carrick after sacking Ruben Amorim - who had been at the club for 14 months - and they believe that their current squad can prosecute the rest of the season since they are only competing in the Premier League. As such, all their recruitment plans are targeted towards the summer transfer window.
According to Transfer News Live, Manchester United have identified Juventus defender Kalulu as a potential signing. The 25-year-old moved to Juve from AC Milan last summer in a deal worth €14.3 million, and he has been a key player for them.
This season, he has featured in 28 games for the Old Lady and has contributed one goal and three assists across all competitions. Kalulu is very versatile, as he can play at center-back and right-back. He is known for his speed, technical ability, and ball-playing ability.
The Frenchman is valued at €28 million on Transfermarkt. But he still has over three years left on his contract, which means that Juventus can hold out for a higher fee.
Manchester United are not the only ones interested in Kalulu. Other Premier League clubs like Tottenham and Aston Villa are also keeping tabs, and can match Juventus’ demands. But given Manchester United’s status as one of the greatest clubs in the world, Kalulu might be eager to make the move.
Since the Red Devils have multiple options at center-back, Kalulu might fit in at right-back and possibly replace Diogo Dalot, who has been inconsistent through his time at Old Trafford.
