Man United turn to Anthony Gordon as Yan Diomande price pushes them toward alternatives

Yan Diomande

Manchester United’s search for attacking reinforcements is beginning to move in a different direction, with the club now weighing up alternatives after RB Leipzig’s valuation for Yan Diomande proved prohibitive.

The Ivorian winger remains admired at Old Trafford, but Leipzig’s insistence on a fee in excess of £100m has forced United to broaden their shortlist.

With budget planning already underway for the summer and with financial caution guiding their summer plans, the club is reluctant to allocate such a significant portion of its finances to a single deal, particularly with multiple positions requiring strengthening.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking in an interview on YouTube, one of the names now under consideration is Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon.

The 24-year-old has emerged as a realistic option, with insiders claiming United “really like” his versatility. Gordon is capable of operating across the front line and has also expressed willingness to play through the middle when required, adding to his appeal.

While his domestic form has been inconsistent, Gordon has put on a show in Europe this season, contributing eight goal involvements in the Champions League group stage. Hence, United sees him as a player who could benefit from a different tactical environment.

Diomonde, meanwhile, remains highly rated across Europe, with Bayern  Munich, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham all monitoring his situation.

However, the growing competition and Leipzig’s stance on his price have made the deal increasingly complex.

As a result, United are now exploring a list of contingencies, including Gordon, as they seek a more balanced and financially feasible option to bolster their squad.
