Premier League giants Manchester United have added Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba to their summer transfer wishlist, according to reports from TeamTalk.
The Burkina Faso defender has become one of Leverkusen’s best players since joining in 2020 and played a crucial role in the club’s historic Bundesliga-winning campaign in the 2023-24 season, when they won their first-ever league title with an unbeaten record.
The 27-year-old has maintained that form into this season, and his consistent performances for the club has attracted interest from top European clubs including Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester United spent over £200 million on new players last summer, but are gearing up for another major squad overhaul, especially if they secure a return to the UEFA Champions League after a two-year absence.
Alongside a new manager to replace interim boss Michael Carrick, the three-time European champions are also exploring reinforcements in other areas.
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is set to leave the club upon expiry of his contract at the end of the season.
As we earlier reported, Adam Wharton and Elliott Anderson have been identified as potential successors, while Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba are also linked with a move to the club.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils also want Tapsoba to replace England defender Harry Maguire, who could leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season despite expressing a willingness to stay.
Manchester United are particularly drawn to Tapsoba’s physicality, which they believe will suit the demands of the Premier League.
His experience and leadership qualities will also be vital at the back as they hope to challenge for trophies next season, although he would not come at a low price.
