Ex-Man United midfielder urges Arsenal to push for Nico Paz amid growing summer interest

Former Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Manchester City midfielder Owen Hargreaves has advised Arsenal to consider a summer move for highly-rated Argentine youngster Nico Paz.

Paz, currently impressing at Como, has emerged as one of the standout young performers in Serie A this season, with the young attacking midfielder playing a key role in the club’s unexpected push towards a top-four finish in the Italian top flight.

The 21-year-old Argentina international joined Como from Real Madrid in 2024 and has since enjoyed a rapid rise that has now attracted attention from several top clubs across Europe.

Hargreaves believes Arsenal should be one of those clubs looking to poach the former Real Madrid starlet from his current employers, highlighting the player’s potential to develop into a top-level talent under Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

“There’s a young lad at Como, Nico Paz. There’s an option for him to go back to Real Madrid, but if I’m Arsenal… This kid – you’ll see him at the World Cup.

“Mikel Arteta will already know that this boy will be a star, and if you don’t ask, you don’t get. A player like that could suit Arsenal,” the former England star said on TNT Sports.

Even if Arsenal decide to pursue a transfer for Paz this summer, multiple factors could make any potential move a difficult one to get over the line.

Real Madrid are understood to retain a buy-back clause for the young Argentine, which gives the Spanish giants significant control over his long-term future.

That clause alone could deter suitors or force the Gunners into a race they may struggle to win.

There is also increasing competition for places within Arsenal’s attacking setup. With options such as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Eberechi Eze already available, integrating another creative profile could upset the balance of the squad.

However, Paz’s versatility and eye for goal continue to make him an attractive proposition, and whether or not Arsenal attempts to sign the youngster, he is not expected to be short of willing suitors when the summer transfer window comes around.
