Liverpool are considering a summer move for RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba as they look to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season.
The Premier League champions are keen to bring in an experienced centre-back this summer, especially with uncertainty surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate, who could leave when his contract expires this summer.
Liverpool have already signed young defender Jeremy Jacquet from French club Rennes in January, but the club’s priority is to add a proven and experienced defender to strengthen their backline ahead of the upcoming campaign.
The Reds have been linked with several targets in recent weeks, including Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, as well as Juventus’ Gleison Bremer, as we reported earlier.
However, recent reports have now identified Lukeba as another strong option, particularly if Konate departs.
The French defender has been one of the Bundesliga’s most consistent performers since joining Leipzig from Olympique Lyon in 2023, making 97 appearances across all competitions, including 25 this season.
His performances have attracted attention from several top European sides, including Arsenal and Real Madrid, both of whom are also looking to strengthen their backline ahead of next season.
Lukeba is reported to have a release clause of around £70 million, although Leipzig may be open to lowering their demands if any club pursues their interest.
Liverpool would have little trouble meeting Leipzig’s valuation, while qualification for the UEFA Champions League would further boost their chances of securing a deal for the highly-rated defender, who is seen as a long-term solution at the back.
