Premier League champions Liverpool could be set for a surprise reunion with defender Jarell Quansah, as doubts continue to grow over Ibrahima Konate’s future at Anfield.
Quansah rose through the ranks at the Reds and made his senior debut in August 2023, during a 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League.
However, he struggled for game time despite showing promise, prompting a move away last summer to join former Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £35 million.
That switch has paid off for Quansah, who has already featured 32 times across all competitions at the German club this season.
He has only missed five games so far this season and has boosted his chances of earning a call-up to the England squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
According to TeamTalk, Liverpool are considering bringing back Quansah as a replacement for Konate after an impressive spell in Germany.
The French defender’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has turned down several extension offers from the club.
With no breakthrough in talks, he seems likely to leave in the summer, with Real Madrid emerging as the most likely destination.
Liverpool have already started their defensive rebuild by signing Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes during the winter transfer window, while highly-rated youngster Giovanni Leoni is expected to return to action from an anterior cruciate ligament injury in time for next season.
Bayer Leverkusen are not expected to block Quansah if he pushes for a move to Liverpool in the summer.
The transfer would make sense for the defender, as he is very familiar with the club and would easily fit into the Premier League.
