Liverpool eye shock move for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo

Premier League champions Liverpool have added Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo to their list of defensive targets, as they look to strengthen their backline ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds are expected to reinforce their defence in the summer with uncertainty surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate at the club, while Joe Gomez could also be on his way out at the end of the season, leaving them short of options at centre-back.

The six-time European champions have already secured the signing of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, with the young defender set to arrive in the summer.

They are also in the race for Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, as we reported earlier.

According to Tribal Football, Liverpool are now monitoring the situation of Araujo and could make a move for the centre-back once the summer transfer window opens.

The Uruguayan centre-back joined FC Barcelona in 2018 and could be available for a reduced fee as the Spanish champions consider parting ways with him.

Araujo showed plenty of promise during his early years, but his form has dipped due to injuries and inconsistent performances and is no longer considered a starter at the Catalan club.

However, the Reds could face competition from Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in their bid to land the Uruguayan, with both European heavyweights also interested in securing his services.

Araujo is believed to be open to a move, as a change of environment could help him rediscover his best form.

A switch to the Premier League may appeal to the defender, and with Barcelona willing to lower their asking price, a deal could prove beneficial for all parties involved.
