Weston McKennie is on the verge of signing a new contract with Juventus that would keep him at the club until 2030.
McKennie joined Juventus from Schalke back in 2020 and has spent most of his time in Turin fighting for his place rather than being handed it.
He was loaned to Leeds in January 2023, nearly forced out to Aston Villa as part of the Douglas Luiz deal in the summer of 2024, and spent weeks frozen out of the squad before Thiago Motta eventually brought him back in.
However, under head coach Luciano Spalletti, the 27-year-old has been one of Juventus’s most consistent players this season, scoring seven goals and adding two assists in 37 appearances so far.
John McKennie, his father, captured the mood when he wrote on social media that his son is “the happiest I have seen him in quite some time,” adding that the coach has made all the difference.
The player’s current deal runs until June 2026. Talks over an extension had stalled for a while, with reports pointing to disagreements over agent fees as the main obstacle.
Goal earlier revealed that Juventus director Marco Ottolini said the meetings are ongoing, describing the club as very happy with the American’s contribution, while transfer expert Matteo Moretto has revealed that the final contacts between the two parties have been “extremely positive”.
A move to MLS had been floated as a possibility if talks broke down, but McKennie has no intention of leaving, and Juventus have responded by putting a deal on the table that would tie him down for four more years.
