Juventus’ desire to lure Bayern Munich defender Raphael Guerreiro to the Allianz Stadium this summer could face potential complications amid reports of rival interest from Benfica and Fenerbahce.
Guerreiro is set to depart the Bundesliga this summer after spending the last ten years of his career in the German top flight, with Bayern Munich announcing last week that the French-born Portuguese international will quit the Allianz Arena once his contract expires at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old, who joined the Bavarians in the summer of 2023 after seven years on the books of their biggest Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, has served as an important squad player over the course of his career in Munich.
With his time at the club now nearing its end, there is no shortage of willing suitors looking to acquire his services this summer, with reports indicating that clubs across Europe are already positioning themselves early in a bid to outfox the competition.
According to Bild, Juventus are one of the clubs seriously looking to sign Guerreiro on a free transfer in the summer, with the Old Lady having held a long-standing interest in the Portuguese international.
The Bianconerri could lose their current first-choice left-back, Andrea Cambiaso, this summer amid interest from Barcelona, and the arrival of Guerreiro would potentially go a long way in cushioning the effect of such a huge departure.
However, they face stern competition from the likes of Benfica and Fenerbahce, who are also keenly interested in boosting the quality of their respective squads with the high-profile addition of a player of Guerreiro’s calibre.
With Benfica, the opportunity to finally play in the Portuguese league could be appealing to Guerriero, who is nearing the tail-end of his caree,r while Fenerbahce could give themselves an edge over their rivals by presenting a financially lucrative offer.
In all this, much will depend on Guerreiro’s desire for the next phase of his career. The versatile Portuguese left-back, clearly still capable of playing at the highest level, will be at full liberty to pick out his new club ahead of next season.
