Inter Milan have moved a step closer to re-signing Croatian winger Ivan Perisic after the veteran attacker agreed personal terms with the Serie A leaders.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, the 36-year-old is keen on a return to the San Siro and has already reached an agreement in principle with the Nerazzurri. Inter are now working to convince PSV Eindhoven to sanction the move before the January transfer window closes.
Perisic is no stranger to Inter, having enjoyed two separate spells with the club between 2015 and 2022. He initially joined from VfL Wolfsburg and went on to establish himself as a key figure before spending the 2019/2020 season on loan at Bayern Munich, where he won the UEFA Champions League as part of the Bavarians’ historic treble.
Despite his age, Perisic has been one of PSV’s most reliable performers this season. The 2018 FIFA World Cup finalist has contributed five goals and 10 assists under manager Peter Bosz across all competitions for Die Rood Wieten.
His form, however, is exactly why the Dutch are reluctant to let him leave midway through the campaign. With Champions League playoff qualification still in the balance, PSV are wary of losing one of their most experienced players at a critical stage of the season.
PSV’s defeat to Newcastle United last night has complicated their European campaign. They are now level on points with 25th-placed Napoli heading into the final league-phase round, raising the possibility that they could miss out on the knockout stages entirely. Such a scenario could significantly strengthen Inter’s hand in negotiations.
Inter’s renewed interest in Perisic first emerged several days ago, with the 20-time Scudetto winners exploring a loan deal for the Croatian. Talks are said to have been ongoing for the past three days, with both clubs assessing the feasibility of a short-term move.
While Swiss winger Dan Ndoye remains Inter’s primary long-term target, Nottingham Forest have refused to entertain offers for the 25-year-old during the January window. That stance has forced Inter to turn their attention to alternative options.
Perisic is now viewed as an ideal short-term solution, offering experience, versatility, and familiarity with the club. He is expected to serve as reliable cover for Luis Henrique, who has played every game for the three-time Champions League winners since the start of December.
