Three-time European champions Inter Milan have emerged as a strong contender to sign Julian Brandt, whose contract with Borussia Dortmund is set to expire at the end of the season.
The German attacker joined Dortmund from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen in 2019 and is expected to leave the Signal Iduna Park this summer after seven years at the club.
Brandt has been an important figure for Die Borussen since his arrival, making more than 290 appearances across all competitions and scoring 56 goals.
However, the 29-year-old is believed to be ready for a new challenge after failing to reach an agreement over an extension.
Reports suggest that Inter Milan are now willing to make a move for the German international once the current season is over, and will be hoping for an early agreement on personal terms.
The Nerazzurri are expected to strengthen their squad ahead of next season as they aim to compete strongly in Europe and are impressed by Brandt’s versatility, as he is capable of playing in several attacking roles.
However, Inter Milan are not the only club eyeing a transfer for the 29-year-old, with Premier League clubs Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur also considering making a move.
A move to Italy would be appealing to Brandt, giving him the chance to compete for major trophies and also challenge in Europe, although he may need to accept a significant pay cut for the transfer to happen.
For now, the attacker’s focus remains on finishing the season strongly with Borussia Dortmund as he hopes to earn a recall to the Germany squad under Julian Nagelsmann for the upcoming World Cup.
