Hansi Flick future at Barcelona tied to Laporta election as coach considers exit plan

Hansi Flick’s future at Barcelona has become closely tied to the club’s upcoming presidential election, with the German coach understood to be weighing his position should there be a change in leadership at the Camp Nou.

The 60-year-old is currently under contract until June 2027, having signed an extension following a successful spell that delivered the La Liga, Copa Del Rey and Supercopa de España.

However, the continuity of that arrangement is being threatened by events off the pitch, with Barcelona scheduled to hold presidential elections next month.

Reports indicate that Flick views himself as part of the current administration led by Joan Laporta. As a result, the coach will consider an exit at the end of the season if Laporta fails to secure re-election.

Speaking at Mundo Deportivo’s Gala recently, the Barcelona president said, “If I return as the president after elections, Hansi will be able to stay for as long as he wants.”

The remark was delivered as part of a wider defence of his sporting vision, with Flick central to that plan.

The players are also understood to prefer Flick. They believe the former Bayern Munich manager is the best possible managerial option available to the club at this stage of its rebuild.

Flick himself has not hidden his satisfaction with life at the club. In recent media engagements, he has spoken positively about his role, the working environment and the support he receives from both the board and the players.

With the team competing on multiple fronts, Flick’s position is stable for now. But in the longer term, it will depend on the club’s members, not just results on the pitch.
