Habib Beye has been dismissed by Rennes, a decision that clears the way for his anticipated appointment at Olympique de Marseille.
The Senegalese coach is now a free agent following his departure from the Ligue 1 club. An agreement in principle is in place between Beye and Marseille, with the final administrative steps being completed to formalise his arrival.
Marseille are working to conclude the process swiftly, and if the remaining details are resolved without issues, Beye is expected to be presented on Thursday to take the pre-match press conference and oversee training ahead of Friday’s trip to Brest.
There is a possibility he could be on the bench for that fixture, subject to the contract being signed and registered in time.
Rennes confirmed Beye’s exit after announcing Franck Haise as their new head coach earlier in the day, a development that effectively opened the door for Marseille to accelerate talks with Beye.
Jacques Abardonado had overseen matters on an interim basis, though Marseille intended for Beye to assume control immediately once formalities are completed.
The proposed agreement at Marseille is expected to run until June 2027, as reported by Fabrice Hawkins on X
Beye succeeded Roberto De Zerbi, who departed earlier this month, and will face the immediate challenge of guiding Marseille to both a top-three finish in Ligue 1 and a strong run in the Coupe de France.
Currently fourth in the table, OM trails Olympique Lyonnais by five points and will host them at the Stade Velodrome in under two weeks. A home victory against Toulouse on March 4 would also pave the way to the semi-finals for France’s oldest domestic cup.
