Former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin leaves Club América over racism concerns

Former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin has ended his spell with Club América six months after joining the Mexican side from Al-Ahli, following reports of racist abuse directed at his children while the family were living in Mexico.

The 28-year-old completed his move to the Liga MX club in August 2025, from Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia after a loan period with Fenerbahçe earlier in the year.

América agreed a fee of around $ 12 million and handed the France-born attacker a long term contract.

Saint-Maximin became a regular option during the Apertura 2025 phase and the opening rounds of the Clausura 2026. He made at least 16 appearances in league and cup matches, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists.

The events leading to his departure became public in late January when Saint-Maximin released a statement on social media a statement on social media confirming that his children had been subjected to racist behaviour in Mexico.

“The problem isn’t skin color, it’s the color of thoughts. I grew up and learned to fight against attacks, from the hidden to the overt. But there’s one thing I will never tolerate, and that’s attacks against my children,” he wrote.

No names were disclosed, and no formal complaint was revealed in the public statement, but the player confirmed that the circumstances affected his ability to continue living in the country.
