Premier League side Everton are reportedly weighing up a move for Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio, as they look to strengthen their backline ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Toffees are keen to bolster their defence going into next season, especially with the possibility of European football still on the table if they manage to secure qualification.
However, they could become short of options at the back if England international Michael Keane leaves the club at the end of the campaign, with his contract set to expire in June and no extension agreed so far.
According to reports from Fichajes, Everton have now identified Asencio as a potential target and could step up their interest once the transfer window opens.
The 23-year-old defender rose through the ranks at Real Madrid and spent a brief spell with lower-league side RSC Internacional before returning to the Spanish giants in 2023.
He enjoyed a breakthrough debut campaign last season, showing plenty of promise, but has struggled for consistency in the current campaign and has seen his role reduced.
Asencio’s loss of form and limited playing time has also affected his chances at the international level, which could push him to consider a move in search of regular football.
Meanwhile, Everton are not alone in their interest and could face competition from several Premier League rivals, including West Ham United, who could also step up their pursuit if they can avoid relegation this season.
Real Madrid are believed to be open to selling Asencio, giving Everton a big opportunity to land the defender. A switch to Merseyside would also appeal to the Spaniard, giving him the chance for a fresh start and more consistent game time.
