Premier League side Everton are exploring the possibility of re-signing John Stones from Manchester City ahead of the summer transfer window.
The England international previously played for the Toffees before joining the Cityzens in a deal worth about £50 million in 2016.
After a decade at the Etihad Stadium, he is expected to leave once his contract expires at the end of the season, bringing an end to a trophy-laden spell that saw him win 15 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy.
According to TeamTalk, Everton are now considering making a move to sign Stones as they look to bolster their defence ahead of next season, especially with uncertainty surrounding the future of Michael Keane, who could leave the club at the end of the season.
Head coach David Moyes signed Stones at the Toffees back in January 2013, although he left for Manchester United six months later and is also keen on a reunion with the England defender.
However, Everton will need to act quickly as the 31-year-old defender has also attracted interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League and also in the Major League Soccer.
Stones is open to staying in the Premier League, giving him the chance to continue playing at the top-level, while the Toffees would be getting a proven and high-quality defender to aid their push for European qualification.
For now, the defender’s priority remains on finishing the season strongly with Manchester City and maintaining his fitness ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup with England, before making any decision on his next move.
