Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández is reportedly preparing to submit a formal transfer request in a dramatic attempt to engineer a summer move to Real Madrid, according to fresh reports from Spain.
The Argentine international has found himself at the centre of controversy in recent weeks, with tensions rising at Stamford Bridge following disciplinary action taken against him by head coach Liam Rosenior.
Now, speculation is mounting that the 25-year-old is ready to push for an exit as interest from the Spanish giants intensifies.
According to Spanish television programme El Chiringuito, Fernández is prepared to formally ask to leave Chelsea in order to accelerate negotiations with Real Madrid.
The report claims the midfielder has grown increasingly frustrated after being left out of the squad for Chelsea’s FA Cup victory over Port Vale.
Having already been handed an internal suspension, Fernández is also set to miss this weekend’s high-profile Premier League clash against Manchester City.
The omission follows controversial comments he made during the March international break, where he appeared to question decisions taken by the Chelsea hierarchy and hinted at a possible future away from west London.
At the heart of the issue are Fernández’s remarks concerning the dismissal of former boss Enzo Maresca. In interviews conducted during international duty, the Argentine expressed confusion over the club’s direction and admitted the managerial change had disrupted the squad.
“I don’t understand it,” Fernández said when discussing the departure. “Sometimes there are things that we as players don’t understand, how and in what way they try to manage things.
“Obviously, it was a departure that hurt us a lot, especially in the middle of the season. It cuts everything short. We had an identity.”
He added that Maresca had provided clarity in training and tactical structure, suggesting that the mid-season change destabilised the progress the team had been making.
Those comments reportedly did not sit well with the club’s leadership, leading to swift disciplinary measures.
While Chelsea have not publicly elaborated on the internal sanction, the suspension has only fuelled speculation about Fernández’s long-term future.
Despite the growing transfer talk, Fernández’s representative has sought to cool the situation. Javier Pastore has insisted that his client’s references to Madrid were taken out of context and were not intended as a signal of imminent departure.
