German club Eintracht Frankfurt have dismissed manager Dino Toppmoller after the club’s poor start to 2026.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg as revealed on X, Die Adler have parted ways with the 45-year-old, with last Friday’s 3-3 draw against Werder Bremen, where they gave away the lead twice, his final match in charge.
Frankfurt have endured a difficult run of form, picking up just two points from their three matches this year, while conceding nine goals. They have also managed only one win in their last nine games across all competitions, which has left them seventh in the Bundesliga table and five points off the top four.
Die Adler currently have the joint-worst defensive record in the league having shipped in 39 goals, the same number as 16th-placed Heidenheim, which is deemed unacceptable by the club’s hierarchy.
Their struggles this season have not been limited to the Bundesliga with heavy defeats suffered to the likes of Atletico Madrid, Atalanta and Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League, leaving them in 30th position on the 36-team standings.
Toppmoller was appointed in June 2023 as a replacement for Oliver Glasner, following the Austrian’s departure to join Crystal Palace in the English Premier League. The 45-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season, guiding the club to sixth place and a spot in the Europa League. In the last campaign, they finished third after a very impressive run and qualified for the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League.
However, his tenure at the club has been brought to an end just days before their European clash against Qarabag, as they hope for a win to boost their chances of reaching the knockout stages.
Eintracht Frankfurt are expected to announce a replacement in the coming days, with the likes of Xabi Alonso, Edin Terzic, Marco Rose and Roger Schmidt already linked to take over at the club.
