Argentine wonderkid, Claudio Echeverri has completed a loan move to Spanish Club Girona for the rest of the 2025/26 season, pending international clearance, as Manchester City map out the next stage of his development.
The 20-year-old will join the City Football Group sister club, Girona, after spending the first half of the season on loan in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. This move is seen as key for the youngster’s development, giving him the chance to adapt to European football while gaining consistent first-team exposure.
Echeverri officially joined Manchester City in January 2024 but remained on loan at River Plate until early 2025, arriving with a reputation as one of South America’s brightest young midfield talents. His transition has been carefully managed, with gradual integration and exposure to senior football.
Exheverri made his senior debut in City’s FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace at Wembley in May 2025, before scoring his first goal for the club at the FIFA Club World Cup with a curling free-kick against Al-Ain. However, that appearance was short-lived, as an ankle injury temporarily halted his momentum.
A subsequent loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen offered further experience at the highest level. He made 11 appearances for the Bundesliga side across domestic and European competition, featuring six times in the league and five times in the Champions League.
Now, a move to La Liga presents a new opportunity for the young talent. Girona’s technical, ball dominant style suits Echeverri’s profile perfectly, and the club enjoys a strong partnership with his parent club. The presence of City teammate Vitor Ries is also expected to ease his transition.
Echeverri will spend the remainder of the season in Spain, looking to make a name for himself at senior level, with Manchester City monitoring his progress closely as part of a long-term development plan.
