Dayot Upamecano has signed a long-term extension with Bayern Munich, committing his future to the German champions until 2030, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The French defender joined the record Bundesliga champions from RB Leipzig in a €42.5 million move in 2021 and had been approaching the final months of his previous deal, sparking speculation about his future at the club with interest from the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
According to earlier reports, Upamecano was keen on staying at the Bavarians, and after months of prolonged negotiations, he has now agreed to a four-and-a-half-year extension that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until the summer of 2030.
Since arriving at Bayern, the 27-year-old has been a key member of the squad, making 180 competitive appearances and scoring six goals. He has also helped the club to three Bundesliga titles, as well as three German Supercup trophies. This season, the French international has featured 28 times across all competitions, including 17 in the league.
Speaking in a statement published by the official Bundesliga website, Upamecano expressed delight at extending his stay at the club.
“I’m really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team. We’ve got a great team and a great coach. We’ve got big goals together”, Upamecano stated.
“I give my all for my teammates. In every training session, I want to keep a clean sheet in every game and win as many titles as possible with Bayern.”
Bayern Munich have successfully tied down one of its key players and will now move on to negotiations with England captain Harry Kane, whose contract expires in 2027.
The Bavarians continue their push for another Bundesliga title with a clash against Werder Bremen on Saturday, as they hope to maintain their six-point lead at the top, and they also remain in contention to win both the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal.
