Chelsea and Newcastle United are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign highly-rated FC Köln forward Said El Mala ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old attacker has emerged as one of the breakout stars in the Bundesliga this season, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs following a string of impressive performances.

According to reports, both Chelsea and Newcastle are leading the chase for the German youngster, with Brighton & Hove Albion also keen on securing his signature.

Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler is believed to be pushing for the deal, but El Mala is reportedly prioritising a move to the Premier League regardless of destination.

Both Chelsea and Newcastle are expected to strengthen their attacking options after underwhelming campaigns.

Chelsea invested heavily in forwards last summer, but only João Pedro has consistently delivered, leaving room for further reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Newcastle splashed out on attackers including Yoane Wissa, Nick Woltemade, and Anthony Elanga, but inconsistency has plagued their forward line.

El Mala, described as a “one in a million” prospect, has registered 12 goal contributions in just 12 Bundesliga starts, underlining his rapid development despite limited opportunities.

Although not yet a guaranteed starter at Köln, the teenager has made the most of his chances, quickly establishing himself as one of the club’s brightest attacking threats.

Köln are reportedly bracing for a bidding war, with a fee in the region of £34 million expected to be enough to tempt the German side into a sale.

With multiple clubs circling and the player keen on a Premier League move, the race for El Mala’s signature is shaping up to be one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer battles.
