Sonia Bompastor has signed a new contract to remain as Chelsea Women’s head coach until 2030, securing her future at Stamford Bridge beyond her previous deal, which was set to run until 2028.

The 43-year-old retained the club’s backing after a rare dip in form, including consecutive defeats in the Women’s Super League for the first time since 2015.

Chelsea suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Manchester City in their most recent WSL outing, leaving them 12 points behind the league leaders and in third place. The defeat followed another league loss, and was Chelsea’s first back-to-back WSL defeats in over a decade.

Despite these setbacks, the Athletic reports that the club has confirmed their support for Bompastor, offering her an extension.

The French coach joined Chelsea in May 2024 from Olympique Lyonnais, replacing long-serving manager Emma Hayes.

In her first season, she led the Blues to an unbeaten domestic treble, winning the Barclays Women’s Super League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup. Chelsea finished that campaign with the highest points tally in WSL history.

Bompastor’s tenure has also included Champions League campaigns, where Chelsea reached the later knockout stages, continuing a pattern of strong European performances inherited from her Lyon career.

Before moving to England, she dominated domestic competitions in France, claiming multiple league titles and Champions League trophies both as a player and manager.

Club sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley described the contract extension as a statement of confidence in Bompastor’s leadership. The club confirmed that Bompastor would continue to oversee Chelsea’s domestic and European ambitions for the foreseeable future.
