Brighton and Hove Albion are considering a move for Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi as a possible replacement for Carlos Baleba, who could leave the club during the summer transfer window.
Cameroonian midfielder Baleba joined Brighton from French club Lille in 2023 and has since developed into one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in Europe.
His progress has attracted attention from several top clubs, and he has been linked with a potential exit from the Seagulls at the end of the season.
Manchester United have been mentioned as a possible destination for the 22-year-old, as the Red Devils seek midfield reinforcements in the summer.
As a result, Brighton have already begun scouting for potential replacements and have identified Yirenkyi as one of their primary targets should Baleba leave, according to reports from TeamTalk.
The young Ghanaian joined Danish outfit Nordsjaelland shortly after turning 18 in 2024, initially linking up with the club’s U-19 team before making his senior debut in September of the same year.
Brighton are impressed by the 20-year-old’s versatility, as he primarily operates as a central midfielder, but is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder.
In addition, he can fill in at centre-back or even at left-back when required, giving his team multiple options.
However, the Seagulls may need to act quickly if they want to secure his signature, as they are expected to face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and several other European sides.
A move to Brighton could be an ideal next step for Yirenkyi, given the club’s strong reputation for developing young talent, while he would also arrive for an affordable fee.
