Bournemouth activate purchase option for on-loan defender Alex Jimenez

Bournemouth have triggered the purchase option in Alex Jimenez’s loan deal from AC Milan following his appearance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Cherries completed a move for the versatile defender last summer on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy, and the clause was activated after meeting the contractual requirements.

AC Milan will receive a total of €24 million from the transfer, which is made up of a fixed €19 million fee and up to €5 million in add-ons.

The Italian club will receive €5 million upfront and a percentage of the remaining amount, while Real Madrid will also receive a significant amount from the transfer due to a sell-on clause included when Jimenez joined the Rossoneri in 2023.

The 20-year-old began his senior career at Real Madrid, but left the Spanish club in search of regular first-team football after limited opportunities. He then moved to AC Milan on an initial loan deal, which later became permanent, with Real Madrid retaining a percentage on any future sale.

Jimenez joined Bournemouth last summer and has immediately become a key part of Andoni Iraola’s squad. He has made 21 appearances in the Premier League this season, starting 17 of them and has been used in multiple roles, highlighting his versatility and importance to the team.

The Spanish defender will sign a contract until June 2031 and will be hoping for a more consistent run as the Cherries hope to seal a European spot at the end of the season.
