Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of highly rated Brazilian left-back Kaua Prates, with the teenager set to arrive from Cruzeiro ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 17-year-old underwent his medical earlier in the week before putting pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the Bundesliga club until 2031.
Although he will remain in Brazil for another year, Dortmund have moved early to secure one of South America’s most promising defensive prospects.
Sporting director Lars Ricken described Prates as an “extremely exciting “ addition due to his talent and long-term potential. The club believes his technical and physical quality, albeit developing, makes him the ideal signing.
Prates is comfortable operating in multiple defensive roles and across different tactical systems, an attribute Sebastian Kehl also spoke positively about.
The Brazilian has pledged to give everything from his first day in Dortmund as he begins the next chapter of his career. He also expressed pride at earning the opportunity to wear the black and yellow shirt.
This deal shows, for the umpteenth time, Dortmund’s continued focus on recruiting emerging talent before they fully break onto the European stage.
In Prates, Dortmund believe they have found another player capable of making waves at the Signal Iduna Park in the years to come.
