Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has expressed confidence in the Red Devils’ ability to secure a UEFA Champions League spot this season after his late heroics rescued a point against West Ham United.
The Slovenian forward emerged as United’s saviour at the London Stadium, coming off the bench to net a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw that kept Michael Carrick’s side firmly in the Premier League top-four race.
Sesko was introduced in the 69th minute with United trailing following Tomás Soucek’s second-half opener. With West Ham sitting deep and protecting their advantage, the visitors struggled to find a breakthrough and looked set to suffer their first defeat under interim boss Carrick after a run of four straight wins.
However, deep into added time, Bryan Mbeumo delivered a dangerous cross into the box, and Sesko produced a brilliant improvised finish, flicking the ball into the net with a sublime volley to salvage a crucial point.

Reflecting on the match, the 22-year-old admitted United expected a difficult contest against a resolute West Ham side.
“It was just one of those games that was not going to be that easy because especially they were stepping back, they were really compact, they were trying to go for the counter-attacks,” Sesko said in quotes revealed by ESPN.
The former RB Leipzig striker acknowledged that United pushed relentlessly for victory, even though they ultimately had to settle for a draw.
“It’s just something that we have to learn from. I think everyone wanted it, everyone was trying to win the game, to score, to fight for each other.
“Unfortunately that didn’t happen, but at least we got a draw, which is important in the end.”
The result ensured Manchester United remained fourth in the Premier League standings, continuing an impressive resurgence that few predicted just weeks ago under former manager Ruben Amorim.
Since Carrick stepped into the dugout on an interim basis, United have rediscovered consistency and belief, with their attacking unit showing resilience in crucial moments.
Sesko believes the squad possesses the quality and determination required to hold onto a Champions League qualification spot as the season enters its decisive phase.
“We are living for each other,” he said. “We are doing everything to win the games, to secure the Champions League spot because we believe that we have the team for it.
“We have the quality and yeah, we’re going to fight towards it. Unfortunately, the game was like it was. We have to now look forward to the next game and try to win it.”
With momentum building at Old Trafford, United will hope Sesko’s late intervention proves another turning point in their push to return to Europe’s elite competition next season.
