Bayern Munich have been dealt a huge blow just after the second half of the Bundesliga season kicked off last week. Austrian midfielder Konrad Laimer is set to miss at least a month of action after suffering a torn muscle fibre in his calf.
In latest Bayern Munich injury news released by Buli News, the injury occurred in Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over FC Koln on Wednesday, although the former RB Leipzig midfielder played all 90 minutes at the Rhein Energie Stadion.
After the game, he was seen limping, and despite the victory, the club’s medical staff had to attend to him before the Bavarians returned to Munich.
The torn muscle fibre was confirmed by the team’s medics after further examination, and a return time has not been set. Typically, recovery of such injuries usually takes between two to eight weeks, depending on the severity of the tear.
However, Vincent Kompany and the rest of the Bayern Munich coaching staff believe the Austrian midfielder should be back in action after three to four weeks, with a timeline pegged for the final week of February, and that is a worst-case scenario.
Laimer’s absence will be felt by Bayern. The versatility of the former RB Salzburg man has allowed the midfield pairing of Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic to thrive. The 28-year-old has featured at right-back, left-back, central midfield, and even attacking midfield under Kompany this season.
Prior to the injury, Laimer had played every game for the six-time UEFA Champions League winners, citing his importance. Away from his defensive solidity and tactical awareness, he’s scored two goals and provided eight assists in 26 games across all competitions for the record Meister.
Bayern are currently top of the Bundesliga, eleven points clear of Borussia Dortmund, who are in second place. They’re also competing in the DFB Pokal and the UEFA Champions League.
