European Heavyweights, Bayern and Chelsea Chase Rennes’ Jérémy Jacquet

Jérémy Jacquet to Chelsea

European giants, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are interested in Rennes youngster, Jérémy Jacquet. The Centre Back has been attracting attention from Europe’s elite clubs. At just 20 years old, the Stade Rennais defender is reportedly on the radar of both Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

The France U21 international is valued at €50 million by Rennes, and this hefty price tag has put off a few clubs, including Bayern, who are already  stacked in defense.

Chelsea, on the other hand, appear to be further along in the race and are said to have already initiated talks with the player’s representatives.

The Blues weren’t expected to be active in the transfer window, but it appears their plans have changed, with the club now looking to add options in defense, by signing a centre back.

Chelsea lost Levi Colwill to a long term ACL injury before the start of the season, and have struggled in defense since they didn’t replace the England international.

Liam Rosenior seems to believe that the current crop of centre backs aren’t good enough or don’t possess the skill set he needs for his system.

As a result of this Chelsea have three names on their target list with Como’s Jacobo Ramon, and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi thought to be two of the names, but their main target is Jacquet, although a number of clubs are monitoring the 20-year-old.

Chelsea are looking to beat the competition for Jacquet as they plan to complete his signing this month as they know there will be competition in the summer.
