Barcelona presidential candidate Xavier Vilajoana has pledged to sign Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane if he wins the club’s elections.
Vilajoana is one of five candidates contesting the presidency, alongside incumbent Joan Laporta, Victor Font, Marc Ciria, and Joan Comprubí.
The former La Masia academy player and one-time captain of Barcelona’s futsal team made the Kane pledge in a post on X on Thursday, using a picture of the England captain in a Barcelona shirt.
He framed the potential signing as what an ambitious and financially responsible club could achieve.
“Caring for our La Masia players has been my utmost priority,” Vilajoana wrote, “but we will always need the ability to attract elite talent.”
“We can make it happen. By putting an end to financial chaos and returning to the 1:1 rule. A signing for me is a signing for an ambitious Barcelona,” he added.
The 1:1 rule refers to La Liga’s financial fair play regulation, which requires clubs to generate one euro in savings or revenue for every euro spent on transfers. Barcelona have struggled to comply with it in recent seasons.
Kane, 32, has been loosely linked with a move to the Catalan club as a replacement for the ageing Robert Lewandowski. The deal is believed to be achievable for around 65 million euros, which is his release clause.
However, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker is understood to be settled at Bayern Munich, where the club is currently working on a contract extension, and has shown no desire to leave.
Vilajoana is not alone in making bold transfer promises. Candidate Victor Font has claimed that Erling Haaland or Julian Alvarez would be possible under his watch. At the same time, Marc Ciria has gone so far as to promise to pursue the return of Lionel Messi.
Barcelona members vote on March 15.
